Robert Fountain is a multitalented, San Francisco-based event designer and artist who is celebrating 20 years of creating dreamlike, fantasy events that are experiential and immersive. With an international presence and the ability to produce grandiose occasions for an esteemed clientele, Robert is a leading figure in the world of event design, working with fine art organizations, top corporations and individuals synonymous with extravagance and luxury. Most of his clients include high-profile Silicon Valley CEOs and tech founders, as well as the international social set.
Born in Columbus, Georgia and raised in Thomaston, Georgia, Robert moved to San Francisco in 1995. His career flourished a few years later when he started working at San Francisco’s iconic Podesta Baldocchi floral company. During his year at Baldocchi, he sent a bid on behalf of the company for the January 1998 San Francisco ballet gala and got the job. The success of that event helped him win additional contracts and he eventually launched his own business, Robert Fountain International, a year later.
In 2004, Robert became the first event designer to produce the SF Ballet, SF Opera and SF Symphony galas all in the same year. He was also the first to make gala’s sematic (décor), crossing over into experiential events.
Robert’s foray into the tech world came in 2004 when he produced the 30th birthday bash of a high-profile Silicon Valley executive. He’s been producing the high profile events in the Valley ever since, many of which have featured internationally-recognized talents such as Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5, The Killers, Beck, John Legend, Jay Leno, Ditta Von Tease, Earth Wind & Fire and more. Party guests have included stars like Anne Hathaway, Sarah Jessica Parker, Barbara Walters, Carolina Herrera, Kathy Hilton and Iman, to name just a few.
When it comes to entertainment, Robert doesn’t believe his imaginative ideas are ever too big to execute. He has been known to charter yachts and planes or contract islands, palaces and castles as backdrops for his brilliant designs - all in a quest to continually exceed his clients’ expectations. He is creative, does not follow any one style and uses his keen intuition to suggest ideas he thinks a client will want before they know what they want. While Robert’s party ideas are original and ever-changing, his relationships with his clients are steadfast and solid. He has earned the trust of his high-profile clientele by making their privacy a top priority, pricing his productions fairly and treating the first event he creates for them as if it’s the beginning of a relationship that will have him producing every milestone event for that client for the next 20 years or more. Robert is known to provide services without a contract, interacts with his clients directly and makes accommodations to communicate with his busy clients in whatever way feels most comfortable for them.
Over the past 20 years, Robert has staged exciting events throughout the United States, in St. Bart’s, Mexico, France, and Italy. He recently expanded his company to the next hottest market with the opening of The Bank, a mid-century event venue in Palm Springs.
Fountain serves on the Governing Board of Filoli, a charitable 501 (c) (3) non–profit organization dedicated to the preservation, interpretation and stewardship of the cultural traditions and natural history of Filoli. Filoli is one of the finest remaining country estates of the early 20th century, located just 30 miles south of San Francisco and is open for public education and enjoyment.
